Anna University is one of the leading technical universities in South India. The main university campus is located in Guindy, Chennai. The university was named after C.N.Annadurai, former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu in the year 1978.
The university was formed from University of Madras faculty of engineering and technology which had 4 major institutes under it in the year 1978. It was University of Madras and got re-named to Anna University in the year 1978. In the year 2001, Anna University became an affiliating university for all the colleges in Tamil Nadu.
The college included government as well as private colleges. In 2007, Anna University was divided into six constituent universities. The constituent universities are Chennai (campus), Chennai, Coimbatore, Tirunelveli, Madurai and Tiruchirappalli. Later on 14 September 2011, the constituent universities were merged back together for all engineering colleges in Tamil Nadu.
The motto of Anna University is “Progress through Knowledge”.
Admissions in Anna University were made on the basis of Tamil Nadu Professional Courses Entrance Examination till 2006. From the year 2007, the admissions were given on the basis of senior secondary marks.
Over the years, many honorable people have been a part of Anna University. Our late president APJ Abdul did his engineering degree from Anna University. Shiv Nadar, the chairman of HCL Technologies was also a Anna University pass out.
Anna University affiliates four types of colleges;
A. Anna University Colleges & Campus – affiliated to Anna University
B. Tamil Nadu Government Engineering Colleges – affiliated to Anna University
C. Tamil Nadu Government Aided Engineering Colleges – affiliated to Anna University
D. Self – Financing Engineering Colleges – affiliated to Anna University
The university offers engineering and technology degrees those are BE, B.Tech, MBA, MCA, MSc. Computers, Msc. Mathematics, ME, and M.Tech courses. Anna University also facilitates doctoral studies. The colleges affiliated to Anna University follow semester system. There are two semesters per year. The semester for the duration July to December is called the odd semester and the semester for duration January to June is called the even semester.
The examinations for even semester are conducted the month of May-June and for odd semester examinations are conducted in the month of November-December. The results for odd and even semester are out in the month of August and February.
The Anna University Results are drawn out as CGPA. CGPA (Cumulative Grade Points Average) is generally the average of grade points achieved in all subjects: It is not as same as the percentage. The CGPA in Anna University Results is calculated by the following formula:
CGPA = Sum(Credits * Grade Points) /Sum of Credits/
Anna University examination for odd semester were conducted in the month of December. The Anna University Results for the odd semester will be announced soon. It is expected to be announced in the last week of June.
Anna University Results will be announced on online portals. The mark sheets will be handed out to the students after the results are announced online.
